Despite being diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer at the age of sixteen, which has resulted in her being forced to walk with crutches at all times, Nikki Bradley, who is now 29, has refused to be stopped, climbing mountains to raise awareness and inspire others to remain active despite disease. Her latest goal is to climb Sólheimajökull glacier, an outlet glacier of Mýrdalsjökull in South Iceland.

In an interview with the local newspaper Morgunblaðið Nikki explained she had decided to come to Iceland after a conversation with photographer Paul Doherty, who had just recently returned from a trip to Iceland. “He didn’t have the words to describe his experience.” She prepared her trip with the help of local mountain guides and travel planners, ensuring that everything goes according to plan.

Nikki must walk with crutches at all times, which one might assume would make mountaineering impossible, let alone climbing glaciers. But Nikki is no stranger to mountaineering, having climbed several mountains, including Mount Errigal, the tallest mountain in Ireland. To help her she uses crutches which are specially designed for mountaineering.

Nikki will be accompanied by experienced Icelandic mountain guide on her trip, along with a photographer and a camera crew which is following her adventure.
