The Icelandic budget airline WOW air has announced it is adding a direct flight between Keflavík and Frankfurt, the local news site visri.is reports. The new route is scheduled to be a year-round service. Wow will fly six times each week between Keflavík International Airport and Frankfurt am Main (FRA), beginning June 2.

The new route expands options for travellers between Germany and Iceland as well as increase competition. Two airlines already fly direct between Keflavík and Frankfurt, Icelandair and Lufthansa.

Skúli Mogensen, the CEO of WOW air argues the direct link also offers travellers from Frankfurt new options for flights to North America. “There is a lot of demand in Frankfurt, which is an important financial centre, for flights to the US and Canada. Iceland has also always been a very popular destinations for German tourists and now we can offer people in South Germany reasonable priced flights to Iceland and across the Atlantic to North America.”
