Currently the two airlines fly to many of the same cities, and it is unlikely they will continue to offer multiple flights each week to these destinations. As the route map is thus pruned new destinations will likely be added, according to Elvar Ingi Möller, an analyst at Arion bank believes that new markets could be opened up due to the merger. Elvar told the local newspaper Morgunblaðið that this could lead to Iceland opening up as a destination to a whole new group of travelers.
Prior to the merger WOW air had announced ambitious plans to expand its route network into Asia. The first WOW air flights to India are set to commence this December, and more destinations had been promised next year.
