The Icelandic budget airline WOW Air has announced it will not be continuing its direct flights between St. Louis and Keflavík next year. WOW flew its first flight between the Gateway City and Keflavík earlier this year, marking an important milestone in its history. WOW was the first airline to offer direct flights between St. Louis and Europe in 15 years. It looks like the good people of St. Louis will again be cut from the Old World come January 2019.
Gateway city again without a gateway to Europe
The decision to discontinue flights to St. Louis is part of a wider re-organization of the route map of WOW air. The airline has added a number of new destinations in the US Midwest this year. The airline has not announced any plans to discontinue or change its flights to other Midwestern destinations, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit or Cincinnati.
WOW flies year-round to Detroit and Chicago, while Cincinnati and Cleveland were only added earlier this year to the route map as summer destinations this past summer. The local news site Túristi points out that it is not possible to book flights to either of these cities next summer, which suggests the airline has yet to make a final decision or arrangements for flights to Cincinnati and Cleveland.
Flights to Tel Aviv to be continued
The same does not apply to Tel Aviv, the second largest city in Israel. The local business weekly Viðskiptablaðið reports that WOW air will be flying direct between Keflavík and Tel Aviv in the summer of 2019. The airline introduced the service this summer, thereby becoming the first airline to offer direct flights between Iceland and Israel.
The service will be four times per week, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The first flight will be on June 11, and will continue throughout October.
