Yellow Weather Alerts are in effect for South and North Iceland, today Tuesday February 13.. The Icelandic Meteorological Office is warning of heavy snowfall and blowing snow, gale or near gale and difficult driving conditions. Conditions on heath roads are especially difficult. The Icelandic Road and Coastal Authority has closed the Ring Road across Öxnadalsheiði heath and Vatnsskarð and Víkurskarð mountain passes in North Iceland. Currently there is no way to get between the three largest fjords in North Iceland.
Conditions on the Ring Road west of Vík in South Iceland have also been difficult this morning, with blowing snow and low visibility. The road was deemed impassable earlier this morning, but has been opened up to traffic. Drivers should snow caution.

The IRCA has warned that the Ring Road from Reykjavík to South Iceland might have to be closed as conditions on Hellisheiði heath, between the capital region and South Iceland are deteriorating rapidly. The alternate route through Þrengslin pass might also be closed. Conditions on other routes from Reykjavík to South Iceland are similarly difficult, whtih very low visibility due to heavy snowfall and blowing snow.
