White Christmas and bad travel weather 2179

Icelanders can expect a white Christmas along with bad travel weather, say meteorologists. Snow is expected in the northwest today, elsewhere lighter snow showers. Temperatures widely around freezing point (32 Fahrenheit). Precipitation and cold temperatures will continue tomorrow, Tuesday.

Weather forecast until Sunday, according to the Icelandic Met Office:

Wednesday, December 24: Light wind and occasional snow showers, especially in the north and east. Temperatures ranging between -2 and -16 degrees Celsius (28 to 3 Fahrenheit), coldest in the central highlands.  

Thursday, December 25: Snowfall in the south and west, but fair in the northeast and east. Frost between -1 and -12 degrees Celsius (30 to 10 Fahrenheit), warmest along the southwest coast.

Friday, December 26: Snowshowers in Northeast Iceland, with temperatures ranging between 0 to -7 degrees Celsius (32 to 19 Fahrenheit).

Saturday, December 27: Snowfall in the north and east, some breaks in the clouds expected in the afternoon. Elsewhere fair. Temperatures remain between  0 to -7 degrees Celsius (32 to 19 Fahrenheit).

Sunday, December 28: Southerly winds along the south and west, with some sleet or rain. Dry in the northeast and east. Temperatures rising.
