With the music festival Secret Solstice fast approaching, we’re sure festival goers are getting more excited by the day. This year’s line-up includes well-known international acts such as Radiohead, Die Antwoord, Deftones, Róisín Murphy, Goldie and Action Bronson and local artists such as Of Monsters and Men, Bang Gang and Fufanu. With an artist selection like that, spectators are sure in for a treat!
Iceland Insider contacted three music lovers to find out what not to miss this weekend.
Ósk Gunnarsdóttir, director of PR for Secret Solstice.
1. Die Antwoord
I’ve been a fan of Die Antwoord for a long time. I’ve heard that their live performances are unreal – more related to performance art than a concert – and I can’t wait to experience it!
2. St Germain
Another band I’ve wanted to see live for a very long time.
3. Lady Leshuur
She’s one of the hottest up and coming rap artists on the scene today.
Dögg Mósesdóttir, film maker
1. Róisín Murphy
Róisín is a living legend. Anyone entering the club scene in the 90’s will remember her from the band Moloko. She has a unique voice and style of music and I can’t wait to see her on stage.
2. Hormónar
The Icelandic band Hormónar are the winners of year’s Músíktilraunir (The Icelandic Music Experiments). Their attitude is fantastic and they are a great example of what women can offer the music industry.
Die Antwoord
Die Antwoord is one of very few band I can honestly say I’m excited to see live. To me, their personas are just as interesting as their music – for all I care, the sound system could go bust during the concert, I’d continue watching.
Unnur Linda Konráðsdóttir, HR System Admin with CCP Games
1. M.O.P
M.O.P. just takes me back to the good old days when tearing up the dancefloor at Prikið. In my mind, if you don’t have them on your schedule, you can just as well not attend Secret Solstice at all.
2. Mammút
The singer’s voice is mesmerizing and I will sing along to every song, no matter whether I know the lyrics or not.
3. Radiohead
I love them, I love them, I love them! That's why.
