The Icelandic trade commissioner for North America, Hlynur Guðjónsson, claims Iceland’s commercial whale hunting has not affected sales of Icelandic fish in the United States.
According to RÚV, Hlynur believes there are numerous business opportunities yet to be utilized in the US seafood market.
As Icelandic Magazine reported yesterday, the United States is the largest single market for Icelandic seafood. In 2013, 56 percent of all the salmon farmed in Iceland was exported to the United States.

However, over the past couple of years, animal rights groups based in North America have pressured local companies to stop buying fish from Icelandic fishing company HB Grandi because of its links to Hvalur hf., the only commercial whaling company in Iceland.
