After unusually warm weeks (the warmest October in 60 years) the first snow of the autumn dropped in Reykjavík this morning. It quickly turned into sleet and then rain. When the temperature goes down you can expect icy and slippery roads around Iceland, so drive very carefully.
According to The Icelandic Met Office (IMO) we can expect it to remain wet and chilly in the coming days. And as it will also be quite windy in some regions of the country, you better dress warm if you plan to spend some time outside.
IMO’s forecast
Tuesday: Becoming east wind 13-20 m/s (29-45 mph/47-72 km/h) with rain in the south parts before noon. Lighter winds and dry in the north until afternoon. Turning lighter southerlies with rainshowers by late afternoon, and partly clearing in the evening in the northeast. Temperatures mostly 4 to 9 degrees C (39-48 F) during daytime.
Wednesday: West and southwest 8-15 m/s (18-34 mph/29-54 kmh) with showers in the southern and western parts but fair weather in the eastern part but northeast 8-13 m/s (18-29 mph/29-47 km/h) and rain in the northwestern part of the country. Temperature 4 to 9 degrees C (39-48 F).
