Weekend weather: Temperatures reach a record high in the North. Heavy rain in the West 1660

Temperatures are expected to reach 25 degrees Celsius (77 Fahrenheit) in North and East Iceland today, Friday. The temperature in Iceland last surpassed the 25 degrees mark in 2013, when it measured 26.4 degrees (79.5 Fahrenheit) on the 21st of July in Ásbyrgi, North Iceland.

The highest recorded temperatures in Iceland was on 22 June 1939 when Teigarhorn in Berufjörður, East Iceland, reached a blistering 30.5 degrees Celsius (87 Fahrenheit).

The weekend forecast is mild but cloudy. There will be some scattered showers around the country, heavy in parts of the southern regions. Maximum temperature 20 degrees Celsius (68 Fahrenheit) in the East.

Sunday: Heavy rain expected in the western part of the country, but they will slowly die out in the evening. Maximum temperature 17 degrees Celsius (63 Fahrenheit) in the Northeast.
