Weekend weather: Heavy rain and possible flooding in the south 3520

It will remain somewhat windy in all parts of the country for most of the day, Friday, according to the Icelandic Met Office’s forecast. Heavy rainfall is also expected in the south (from Mýrdalsjökull glacier in the west to Vatnajökull glacier in the east), which could lead to increased runoff. Travellers are advised to show great caution if attempting to cross unbridged rivers.

Northern regions will see some sleet or snow today. Maximum temperature 5 degrees Celsius (41 Fahrenheit) in the south.

Saturday: A southeasterly breeze reaching up to 10 m/s (22 mph) in the Westfjords. Calmer in other parts of the country. Some rain or sleet expected in the south and southeast, heavy at times. The north could see some snow showers. Maximum temperature 8 degrees Celsius (46 Fahrenheit) in West Iceland.

Sunday: A bright and sunny day in the north and northeast but partially cloudy in the south and west. Some heavy rainfall can be expected in the west in late afternoon. Maximum temperature 5 degrees Celsius (41 Fahrenheit).
