The seemingly relentless downpour that hit Iceland this week is over. Today we will be able to see the sun again all around the country and the weekend weather looks quite good, according to The Icelandic Met Office (IMO).
Highland roads however remain extremely wet and muddy and as IMO warned yesterday most rivers will take days to return to pre-flood conditions, so keep that in mind when making travel plans for the weekend. Unbridged rivers in Southwest Iceland will remain uncrossable until the water settles again.
Friday: South 8-13 m/s (18-29 mph/29-47 km/h) in the west by afternoon, but light east winds elsewhere. Clear in the northeast, but partly cloudy and scattered rain showers in other areas. Light winds and partly cloudy tomorrow, and the odd shower in the south and west. Temperatures 6 to 13 degrees Celsius (43-55 F), mildest in the northeast.
Saturday: Light weather and mainly fair, east 5-10 m/s (11-22 mph/18-36 km/h) and occasional rain showers by the southern shoreline. Temperature 3 to 10 degrees Celsius (37-50 F), coolest inland.
Sunday: Easterly wind, 5-10 m/s (11-22 mph/18-36 km/h) and occasional rain in the south and east parts, elsewhere mostly fair weather with light wind. Temperature 0 to 8 degrees Celsius (32-46 F), during the day, coolest inland.
