Award winning film
The award-winning film Rams (Hrútar) will be shown with English subtitles in Bíó Paradís, Hverfisgata 54, at 6 pm tonight (and again at 10 pm tomorrow, 22 January).
The film won the Un Certain Regard at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and is the first Icelandic film to be selected for the category since 1993.The drama tells of two brothers that live in a remote valley in North Iceland. The brothers, played by Sigurður and Theodór, haven’t spoken to each other in forty years but are forced to join forces in order to save their beloved sheep and their prize-winning rams.

Husband’s Day
Bóndadagur is the first day of the month of Þorri. Since the mid-19th century, Bóndadagur has become the Icelandic equivalent of Valentine’s Day and wives would cook their husbands a delicious meal to mark the day. Many restaurants offer special deals on Bóndadagur for those who don’t want to do all the cooking themselves.
A taste of (foreign) beer
Canadian brewery Brasserie Dieu du Ciel will invade craft bar Mikkeller & Friends Reykjavík (Hverfisgata 12) on Friday, 22 January. Brasserie Dieu du Ciel is rated the 5th best brewery in the world by Ratebeer.
Mikkeller & Friends is located on the top floor in one of Reykjavík‘s oldest houses and offers a lovelly view over the old harbour.
Let‘s go to the movies
A special screening of The Labyrinth takes place on Saturday (23 January) at Bíó Paradís, Hverfisgata 54. The film, which stars David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly, tells of a selfish 16-year old girl who is given 13 hours to solve a labyrinth and rescue her baby brother when her wish for him to be taken away is granted by the Goblin King.
The film starts at 4 pm and tickets cost 1,400 ISK.
Dance the night away
Kaffibarinn is one of Reykjavík’s most established watering holes, having celebrated two decades of business in 2013. It was also listed as one of the 25 best clubs in Europe by the Guardian.
Mondays to Thursdays the atmosphere is quite laid back, but on weekends it becomes loud, sweaty and seriously crowded. If you are fine with rubbing shoulders with sweaty strangers, you’re guaranteed a fantastic night out.
DJs Housekell and Ómar Borg will man the decks on Saturday (23 January).

Artist Prins Póló will perform at KEX Hostel on Saturday, 23 January. The concert is free of charge and begins at 9 pm.
