Weekend forecast: Strong winds, colder temperatures and heavy snow showers 2100

The IMO has issued a weather warning for the northwest of Iceland. A strong gale will pass over the area tonight and tomorrow, with gusts of around 23 m/s (51 mph) to be expected. Chances of isolated higher gusts are likely.

The southeast, north and east will see further showers, falling as snow or sleet. Lighter wind and snowfall in other parts of the country.

Saturday: More snowfall in the northern parts of the country but somewhat clear in the south. The showers in the north and east will continue well into Sunday afternoon.
Temperatures are expected to fall well below freezing, so be aware of the risk of ice when travelling between regions. Maximum temperature 0 degrees Celsius (32 Fahrenheit).

Sunday:  A brisk northerly breeze around 13 to 20 m/s (29-45 mph) in the south, with gusts of around 26 m/s (58 mph) likely for a time in the southeast. Temperatures expected to drop further. Minimum temperature -6 degrees Celsius (26 Fahrenheit).
