Weather: You can expect to see waterfalls run upside down in South Iceland today 5191

9. maí 2016 17:24

The first low pressure system of the autumn is about to hit Iceland. Brace your self if you are located in South Iceland or are planning to travel through the area today as strong gusts of wind can be expected by mountains and by Vatnajökull glacier according to the Icelandic Met Office (IMO). However most other parts of the island will be spared.

If you are travelling in a large car or with trailer along the south coast you should take extra caution. The stretch of the Ring Road (Route One) below the Eyjafjöll mountain range is a notoriously windy place where cars have been swept off the road during bad weather, although it should not be that bad today.

If you are travelling through the area keep an eye out for the waterfall Rjúkandi in the Eyjafjöll mountain range, as it’s known to run upside down when the wind is strong. It’s located close to Ring Route. Tour guide Börkur Hrólfsson captured this great video of Rjúkandi breaking the law of gravity.
