Weather warning: Strong gale warning in effect for West and North Iceland 2520

The Icelandic Met Office has issued a strong gale warning for the North and Northwest this evening and until tomorrow noon.

A high pressure area is tracking across the western part of the country towards the north, with frequent gusts of 30-35 m/s (67-78 mph) to be expected near mountainous areas. Winds will begin to subside in the West by tomorrow morning.

According to Vísir, the storm caused some structural damage in Ísafjörður, Westfjords, yesterday. 

The IMO urges drivers of vehicles towing caravans to take extra care when travelling in the region today and tomorrow, preferably delaying their journeys until wind has begun to decrease.
