The Icelandic Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for South Iceland and the Snæfellsnes peninsula, West Iceland. The road between the villages of Ólafsvík and Grundarfjörður, Snæfellsnes peninsula, is currently closed due to gale force winds. The storm will begin to subside this evening.
Gusts of more than 20 m/s (45 mph) are likely for a time near the Eyjafjöll mountain range, South Iceland.
Temperatures will continue to drop, especially in West Iceland.
According to the Road and Coastal Administration, Ring Road 1 across Fróðárheiði is closed due to weather. Icy patches are to be expected on Holtavörðuheiði heath, West Iceland.
