Weather warning: Powerful wind gusts near steep mountain sides in S. Iceland tonight 3001

Travellers are advised to show caution tonight while driving in South Iceland as powerful wind gusts are expected to form near steep mountain sides. The gusts can be dangerous to people driving RVs, large camper vans or pulling trailers.

Eyjafjöll and Öræfasveit Two of the areas where travellers can expect dangerously powerful wind gusts tonight. 

The most dangerous areas during these kinds of storms is the stretch of the Ring Road where it runs along Eyjafjöll mountains, in the foothills of Eyjafjallajökull glacier, east of Seljalandsfoss waterfall, the Ring Road west of the village Vík, where it circles around Reynisfjall mountain, and Öræfasveit region in the foothills of Öræfajökull glacier, between the Skaftafell visitor center in Vatnajökull National Park and Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon.

Sharp wind gusts can cause drivers to lose control of their vehicles or even blow them off the road. Earlier this month a German traveller driving a car with a camping trailer was killed when a powerful wind gust blew the vehicle off the road. The accident took place in Öræfasveit region in S.E. Iceland.
