The Icelandic Met Office (IMO) has issued a weather warning for Wednesday. Strong gale, or more than 20 m/s (45 mph/72 km/h) is expected in the west part of Iceland and in the central highlands. Much stronger burst of wind can be expected near mountains. Drivers of motorhomes and other large vehicles should be very careful and avoid travelling in the area.
The wind will be very strong on the northern part of the Snæfellsnes peninsula.
As we reported yesterday hurricane Nicole is moving over the open waters of the North Atlantic ocean towards Iceland, having hammered the Bermuda archipelago last Thursday with gusts over 160 km/h (100 mph) in spots.
When arriving in Iceland Nicole will have become a post tropical but the wind speed will nevertheless be considerable in the regions mentioned above accompanied by precipitation.
Wednesday: Becoming south 15-23 m/s (34-51 mph/54-83 km/h), strongest in the west. Rain or drizzle, but mainly dry in the north and east parts. Becoming warmer, temperature 8 to 15 degrees C (46-57 F) in the afternoon, warmest in the northeast.
Thursday: South 18-23 m/s (34-51 mph/54-83 km/h), and rain until afternoon, but dry in the northeast. Remaining warm weather. Decreasing wind and rain in the afternoon and becoming colder.
