12. maí 2017 09:39

Travellers who are planning to take to road today are warned to show caution, slow down and drive safe. The Icelandic Road and Coastal Authority has put out a travel advisory alerting people to icy and slippery spots on roads all around the island. Drivers can expect icy conditions on all heaths, mountain passes and mountain roads, but roads on lowland, including the Ring Road, has slick and icy patches as well.

The IRCA warns of icy and slick patches on the Ring Road in South Iceland. The Ring Road across Hellisheiði heath, the heath which separates Reykjavík and South Iceland, has large icy stretches.

Drivers can expect icy conditions on all roads in West- and North Iceland and in the Westfjords. Roads along the coast in North Iceland are also covered in snow in many places, making for more challenging driving conditions.

The Ring Road across Möðrudalsöræfi highland plateau in NE Iceland is slippery due to ice, and roads along the coast in the Eastfjords have icy spots, although most of the Ring Road in South East and East Iceland is clear of both ice and snow.

Travellers are asked to study the weather forecast as well as updated weather alerts and road conditions carefully before embarking on any trips today. You can track road conditions in real-time with the IRCA webcams.
