Weather forecast characterized by extremes: Icy roads today, one-day Indian Summer Thursday 7507

The Icelandic Road and Coastal Authority has issued a warning, alerting travelers to expect ice and slick patches on the Ring Road and other roads in all parts of Iceland. Travelers are also warned to expect winter conditions in the north and at higher elevations. Travelers should always check road conditions on the website of the IRCA.

According to the weather forecast for the coming days the winter driving conditions should persist today and tomorrow, but on Thursday the Icelandic Meteorological Office is expecting the temperature to rise to as much as 13°C (55°F) in lowland areas in South Iceland. The warm southerly winds in Thursday afternoon will only bring us a very brief Indian summer. On Friday the temperature is expected to drop back down to 1-6°C (34-43°F). 

Today's weather outlook: Light easterly wind, but south 5-10 m/s (x-x mph) in the evening. Becoming dry in the afternoon in North- and East-Iceland, fair weather there tomorrow. Showers of rain or sleet in the south and west parts, but moderating and becoming dry there tomorrow afternoon. Temperature 2-7°C (36-45°F).

On Thursday: Easterly 13-20 m/s (29-45 mph), strongest by the south coast. Widely rain, but sleet or snow in mountains at first. Becoming warmer, temperature 6-13°C (43-55°F). in the afternoon. Southerly wind during the evening, slowly decreasing and dry in the north. 

On Friday: Easterly 5-10 , cloudy and mainly dry. Lighter wind and fair in the north. Moves to a northerly 10-18 m/s (22-40 mph) in evening with rain in the eastern part. Temperature 3-8°C (37-46°F). 

On Saturday: Northwesterly 8-13 m/s (18-29 mph) in the northern part with rain by the coast, but sleet or snow inland. Lighter winds and fair in the south. Temperature from freezing point in the northern inlands up to 8°C (46°F) by the South Coast. The wind will moderate by evening, with dry weather and becoming colder. 

On Sunday: Relatively light southerly wind and some rainshowers, but dry in most parts. Temperature 2-7°C (36-45°F). 

On Monday: Light variable wind, mainly dry and partly fair. Similar temperatures.
