Weather: Bring out your shades and shorts, balmy days ahead 4834

If you plan to stay in Southwest Iceland for the next few days you should bring out your shades and shorts. According to the Icelandic Met Office (IMO) it will be warm and sunny on Tuesday and Wednesday in the southwest, even balmy on the Icelandic weather-scale where double figures in degrees Celsius is always a cause for huge celebration.

If however you are visiting Iceland to escape the sunshine and warmth of your home turf you should head to Northeast Iceland where it will be wet and rather frigid, considering the season.

IMO's forecast

Monday
Mostly cloudy and intermittent rain or drizzle in all of Iceland. Temperature 10 to 16 C (50-61 F)

Tuesday
The temperature will hover around 17 to 20 C (62-68 F) and the skies will be clear in the capital area and along the south and west coast. In north Iceland IMO expects the temperature to be 8 to 9 C (46-48 F) light rain.

Wednesday and Thursday
Fair weather in the south and southwest parts, with the temperature up to 19 C (66 F). Cloudy in the north and east parts and intermittent light rain or drizzle, with temperature 7 to 10 C (45-50 F).
