Weather Alert for South East Iceland on Thursday: Dangerous localized winds 7904

The Icelandic Meteorological Office has issued a Yellow Weather Alert for South East Iceland, effective from 8:00 until 14:00 (8 am until 2 pm) on Thursday. Travelers are warned to expect gale force winds and dangerous localized winds along mountains. Localized winds and windgusts in the area around the village Vík and the Öræfi region can reach 30 m/s (67 mph).

The forecast for South East Iceland on Thursday morning includes a northeasterly gale, with sustained wind speeds of 13-20 m/s and powerful localized winds and windgusts exceeding 30 m/s, especially near mountains. The IMO warns that the wind can be dangerous for vehicles that are sensitive to wind. RVs, camper vans and travel trailers can be blown off the road in the most powerful gusts.

People are advised to fasten loose items and show caution, tents and loose object can be blown away. People should also revise any plans for hiking on Thursday morning.
