The world‘s largest Viking Ship, Draken Harald Hårfagre, arrived in Reykjavík yesterday, on it‘s way across the North Atlantic to North America. The ship will stay in Reykjavík for a couple of days, berthed by Harpa Concert Hall in the old harbour in downtown Reykjavík. While it is in Reykjavík the ship will be open to the public between 16:00 and 18:00.

The four year old longboat has a crew of 33 volunteers. The expedition had originally planned to arrive in Reykjavík on May 3, but unexpected problems had caused delays. The ship left Haguesund in Norway on April 26, but quickly discovered technical problems, forcing it to seek harbour in Lerwick in the Shetland Islands for repairs. On April 30 the ship again set to sea, heading to Reykjavík, but on May 2 the crew and shop had to seek harbour in the Faroe Islands due to weather.
After the ship leaves Reykjavík it will sail on to Greenland, and from there to North America. The last stop is in New York, where the ship will arrive in six months.
