Videographer Ólafur Már Björnsson has just published a stunning video diary from a hike in the central highlands. It follows a group of locals visiting some of the most spectacular destinations within Vatnajökull glacier National Park.

The footage is shot from the ground and also from above with a drone creating a beautiful perspective.

Among places the hikers visit are Hvannalindir oasis in the Lindahraun lavafield, the mountain range Kverkfjöll (1,764 m/5,787 ft), located in the northeast corner of Vatnajökull glacier, the neighbouring Hveradalur geothermal area and the new Holuhraun lava field, north of the glacier.

The new Holuhraun lava field, covering 85 square km (32.8 sq. mi), was created during an eruption that lasted 181 days, form 31st August 2014 to 27th February 2015.
