Iceland’s Prime Minister, Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson, will not resign, he told Channel 2 News yesterday. The leaked Panama Papers revealed that the PM owned an off-shore company with his wife, Anna Sigurlaug Pálsdóttir.
Around 20 thousand people gathered yesterday outside the Icelandic parliament, demanding Sigmundur Davíð’s resignation. The PM, however, does not intend to step down.
Channel 2’s reporter asks Sigmundur Davíð whether he has considered resigning.
“No,” he replies. “The government has attained amazing results on many important issues and continues to work on many big issues. It is important that the government be given the chance to finish these tasks. That will best serve the nation’s interests.”
