Search and rescue teams in East Iceland turned around traffic along Jökuldalur valley yesterday evening due to heavy snow and dreadful travel conditions, reports the National Broadcasting Service, RÚV. Many motorists have already changed to summer tires making travel in such conditions difficult.

Travellers waited out the weather at Skjöldólfsstaðir. Rescue teams will be patrolling the area today to assist those in need.

Dettifossvegur, the road to Dettifoss waterfall, remains closed to traffic.
