Strong easterly gales are expected to affect all parts of the country on Thursday, 4 February. The winds will begin to pick up along the south coast in the early morning before spreading to other regions.

Gusts of 30 metres per second (108 km per hour/67 mph) are likely quite widely, with individual blasts reaching up to 35 metres per second (126 km per hour/78 mph) in more exposed areas such as Kirkjubæjarklaustur and the Eyjafjöll mountain range, south Iceland. According to the IMO’s forecast, winds will begin to ease in late evening.

The gale will bring heavy showers of rain or sleet with the wet weather expected to continue overnight.

Minimum temperature -8 degrees (17.6 Fahrenheit) in Egilsstaðir, east Iceland.

Please note that the gale force winds can disrupt travel on Thursday. Motorists are advised to avoid all unnecessary travel during the storm.
