Warning: Severe gale is expected in the Eastfjords and SE-Iceland 5371

The Iclandic Met Office (IMO) has issued a warning: Severe gale or more than 20 m/s  (medial wind more than 45 mph/72 km/h) is expected in the East fjords and SE-Iceland.

The wind speed can reach up to 40 m/s (89 mph/144 km/h) in bursts close to mountains in these regions. This is no travelling weather for large vehicles.

We can however expect calm and beautiful weather in the capital area and around West Iceland.

IMO’s forecast
NW 18-23 m/s (40-51 mph – 65-83 km/h) in the east half of the country today (Monday), but much lighter winds in West Iceland. Frequent snow showers in the NE-part, but partly cloudy elsewhere and mostly dry. Becomming colder, temperature 0 to 5 degrees C (32-41 F) today.
Calm wind and fair weather in the west over night and decreasing wind and showers in the east tomorrow. Fair weather in most places tomorrow evening and temperatur below freesing inland.
