The Iclandic Met Office (IMO) has issued a warning: Severe gale or more than 20 m/s (medial wind more than 45 mph/72 km/h) and heavy rain is expected in South and West Iceland on Friday.
The wind speed can reach up to 40 m/s (89 mph/144 km/h) in bursts close to mountains in these regions. Be extra careful driving by mountains on Snæfellsnes peninsula, on Highway One (the Ring Road) from Reykjavík to Borgarnes town and along the Eyjafjöll mountain range in South Iceland (where Seljalandsfoss waterfall is).
This is no travelling weather for large vehicles as the extreme crosswind can easily swipe vehicles off roads. If you are travelling in a camper be sure to find a safe shelter for it from the wind.
