All travel should be avoided along Iceland's south coast in the afternoon today (Friday). The Icelandic Met Office (IMO) has issued a warning: steady wind along the south coast will be 28 m/s (101 kmh, 63 mph) while bursts close to mountains can reach up to 50 m/s (180 kmh, 112 mph) and this will be accompanied by snow or sleet. This is no travelling weather at all.
The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration has previously closed the Ring Road at Eyjafjöll mountains in South Iceland when the conditions have been similar.
The weather will be grim around Iceland although not as severe as along the south coast. According to IMO the wind will start to pick up elsewhere in the afternoon, blowing from the northeast and reaching 15-23 m/s (54-83 kmh, 34-51 mph) by the evening with snow or drifting snow. Becoming warmer, temperature around freezing level in the evening.

Saturday: North 18-25 m/s (65-90 kmh, 40-56 mph) and snow tomorrow, but isolated snowshowers and blowing snow in the south. Slowly decreasing wind by evening.
Sunday: Variable wind 3 to 8 m/s (11-29 kmh, 8-18 mph), but northwest wind 8 to 13 m/s (29-47 kmh, 18-29 mph) and snowshowers in the northeast and east until afternoon. Cooling weather, temperature -4° to -15° C (25°-5° F) by the evening, coldest inland.
