Due to the severe storm sweeping over the country today, Monday, the Road and Coastal Administration have decided to close numerous roads across the country.
Extensive closures on Ring Road 1 are foreseen, starting at noon in the southern regions where winds are expected to reach 44 metres per second (98 mph/160 km per hour). Further closures are expected around the country by afternoon.
Among closures are Hellisheiði and Þrengslin roads (linking Reykjavík to the south coast) which will close at 3 pm today, Monday, and remain closed until 10 am tomorrow.
The Ring Road near Hvolsvöllur will close at 12 pm and remain closed until 8 am tomorrow.
Reykjanesbraut (linking Reykjavík to Keflavík Airport) will close at 6 pm and stay closed until 5 am tomorrow.
Roads in east and north Iceland will close at 4 pm today and remain closed until tomorrow morning.
Steingrímsfjarðarheiði and Þröskuldar, northern Westfjords, are closed between 5 pm and 3 pm.
Roads in the Westfjords are closed between 6 pm and 12 pm.
