The Icelandic Met Office has issued a strong gale warning for the southeast and east Iceland today. Wind gusts are expected to reach 50 metres per second (112 mph/180 kilometres per hour) in Hamarsfjörður fjord in east Iceland and near Vatnajökull glacier in southeast Iceland.

A blizzard will hit eastern regions by afternoon and rage on until tomorrow. The IMO warns of a possible sand blizzard in areas east of Höfn in Hornafjörður, southeast Iceland. The heavy winds will decrease tomorrow.
Snowfall is expected in north, east and northwest Iceland today, but it will remain mostly dry in the south and southwest. Frosty temperatures all over the country.
