A severe low-pressure system will pass over east and southeast Iceland this evening, Tuesday. Gusts of 25 metres per second (56 mph/90 km per hour) are expected to affect the regions, reaching 30 metres per second (67 mph/108 km per hour) in some locations in the Eastfjords.
The low pressure system is expected to travel north by tomorrow morning with gusts reaching a speed of 25 metres per second.
The south and west will see some sleet or snowfall but calmer weather.
Yesterday, 94 mm (3.7 inches) of rain was dumped on Eskifjörður, east Iceland, in 24 hours, causing some flooding. Six homes had to be evacuated due to flooding hazard.
According to the Road and Coastal Administration, road conditions are widely poor due to ice and snowdrifts. Motorists are advised to show caution when driving between regions today.
