The power utility HS Orka has begun looking for buyers to a 30% stake in the Blue Lagoon, one of Iceland's best known tourist destinations. The local news site Vísir reports that the decision to explore the possibility of selling the stake in the Blue Lagoon was taken after potential buyers had approached the utility.

The utility, which operates the Svartsengi geothermal power plant. which produces electricity from the geothermal seawater which feeds the Blue lagoon, has been among the owners of the lagoon and the spa since their founding. Other shareholders are private investors, including the CEO of the lagoon.
An announcement from HS Orka explains that while the Blue Lagoon is a unique and highly profitable business enterprise it does not fit well the core business of the utility, which is the generation and distribution of renewable energy.
There is no word yet on the possible asking price.
