The Þorvaldseyri Visitor Centre in South Iceland was awarded the Icelandic Travel Industry Association’s Innovation Award 2014. Minister of Tourism Ragnheiður Elín Árnadóttir handed out the annual awards on Tuesday.
The Þorvaldseyri farm is located near the base of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano, and its residents transformed part of the farm into an informative visitors centre dedicated to the volcano.
The exhibition opened in 2011 and includes a twenty-minute-long documentary about the 2010 eruption, shown in a small auditorium that seats up to fifty people.
