The construction of a Viking village could begin in September, reports Morgunblaðið newspaper. The village is located at Langihryggur in Mosfellsdalur and when fully constructed will include 20 building, complete with a farmstead, a smithy, a stave church and a temple.
Stórsaga ehf oversees the project and according to chairman Hallgrímur Hólmsteinsson, the village will serve as a window into Iceland’s past, giving guests a chance to experience the life and tasks of Iceland’s early settlers.
Originally, the village was to be located at Þingvellir National Park but authorities decided to withdraw construction permissions. The new location, Mosfellsdalur, is situated just outside Reykjavík, roughly a 30-minute-long drive from the city centre.
