The locals sometimes joke it’s the smallest fully fledged fishing village in the world. We at Iceland Insider at least believe it as Drangsnes village only has 89 inhabitants (according to the 2015 census).
Located at the mouth of Steingrímsfjörður fjord in Westfjords, the tiny village should be on your Iceland destination list. On its rocky beach are three tubs filled with geothermal warm water. It is truly one of the most interesting bathing location in the country and it’s free of charge.

A short boat ride from Drangsnes harbor is Grímsey island. According to the folklore it was formed by a giant trying to dig the Westfjords apart from the rest of Iceland. It was inhabited until the middle of last century when the last farmer and fishermen moved away. So today the puffins reign supreme in Grímsey in one of Iceland's large puffin colony.
