Parents of the children that suffered burns during a visit to the Geysir geothermal area earlier this week have published a rather terrifying video of the incident (see below).

According to the parents, the family was standing outside the designated danger zone when the scalding hot water landed on them and two tourists.

The children, aged 6 and 11 years old, got first and second degree burn wounds and were airlifted to a hospital in Reykjavík.

They say that a possible explanation could be that this occurred because of a sudden burst of wind on a very windy day and maybe could Strokkur geyser be spewing up hotter water than before due to increased seismic activity in the area.

As before we urge visitors to the Geysir area to show caution and stay within safety areas.
