Yesterday a huge search was launched for two foreign travellers who had been separated from a group of 28 other travellers and 6 guides who had intended to travel to Langjökull glacier on snowmobile. A storm warning had been issued for West and South Iceland yesterday, but the tour operator thought the wind and snow was not bad enough to warrant a cancellation of the tour. However, before the group reached the edge of the glacier, the guides had determined that conditions were too bad to continue. At that point the two travellers got separated from the group.

ICE-SAR received a request to search for the two people at 15:40. A full scale search with 180 ICE-SAR members was underway by 19:00. The two travellers had been found at 21:00. The videos below, shot by a member of ICE-SAR who participated in the opreation shows what conditions were like at Geitafell mountain by Langjökull glacier, where the two travellers had been lost.
