Veterinarians the latest profession to begin strike 1661

Members of the Association of Academics, BHM, continue their strike actions to press for higher pay. Icelandic veterinarians are the latest members to begin to strike.

Many feared this could lead to a meat shortage as a veterinarian must be present at the time of slaughter. However, shop managers say this is a gross exaggeration.

“The matter has been blown out of proportion. The country will not experience a meat shortage. We have enough of frozen meat on stock,” Sigurður Gunnar Markússon, Kaupás’s manager told Morgunblaðið. Kaupás owns and runs grocery stores such as Krónan and Nóatún.
