The Icelandic Met Office (IMO) has issued a warning for Southwest Iceland for Tuesday. Very strong winds with snow showers are expected.
Conditions on Reykjanesbraut road, linking the capital to Keflavík International Airport, could be difficult, be also extra careful when driving by mountains on Snæfellsnes peninsula, on Highway One (the Ring Road) from Reykjavík to Borgarnes town and along the Eyjafjöll mountain range in South Iceland (where Seljalandsfoss waterfall is). Conditions in those areas can be very challenging in strong wind.
IMO’s forecast
Monday: Southwest 10-18 m/s (22-40 mph/36-65 km/h) and showers of rain or sleet, but a bit windier in the northern headlands. Winds decrease slightly in the afternoon. Rain in the south and west part late in the evening.
Tuesday: Southwest 15-23 m/s (33-55 mph/54-83 km/h) and snow showers, but sleet or rain temporarily in the south part. Calmer winds and mostly dry in the northeast part. Temperature 2 to 6 degrees Celsius (36-43 F).
Wednesday: North and northwest 8 to 18 m/s (18-40 mph/29-65 km/h), strongest wind along the coast in the northwest. Snow or snow showers in the north, but mostly fair and dry in the south. Temperature -1 to -5 degrees Celsius (30-23 F), but temperature widely above freezing point along the coast.
Thursday: Snow blizzard in North Iceland, but mainly dry in the south
