According to the National Broadcasting Service the very first vehicles to be manufactured in Iceland should hit the road by the end of the year. Ari Arnórsson, founder of motor company Ísar ehf, says the jeeps are specially designed to cater to travel companies and rescue units.
The jeeps, named TorVeg, will have see-through roofs to allow passengers to view the Northern Lights from inside the vehicle. Their specially designed suspension system will also ensure comfort when driving over difficult terrain.
“The operation cost of the TorVeg will be 40 percent lower than that of a regular jeep,” explains Ari. This is due to the small size and sleek form of the TorVeg jeeps which are specially designed with aerodynamics in mind, meaning the vehicle will achieve better fuel economy numbers. The vehicles will also run on sustainable energy which should lover fuel costs even further.
Three individuals have already expressed interest in purchasing a TorVeg jeep from the motor company. The first jeep should be completed and ready for use by the end of the year.
