Icelandic homes spend on average only a third of what Danish homes spend on electricity and water and sewage utilities. A comparison of the average utility bills of Icelandic and other Nordic families reveals that the bills are by far lowest in Iceland. The average household in Reykjavík spends 251.668 ISK (2,000 USD/1,600 GBP) on energy and other utilities, compared to 655,117 ISK (5,300 USD/4,100 GBP) for the average Copenhagen household.

The average household in Reykjavík only allocates 3.75% of its consumption expenditure on utilities, compared to 12% in Copenhagen.

The average household in Stockholm spends 11% of its consumption budget on utilities, Helsinki families spend 9% on energy and other utilities, while Oslo households spend 7%. According to Samorka, the Federation of Icelandic Energy and Utility Companies all components of the utility bill are smaller in Reykjavík than in the other Nordic capitals, but it's especially the low electricity and heating costs that lower the Icelandic utility bills.
