Iceandic carrier Icelandair has begun direct flights between Keflavík Airport and Chicago. In celebration of the event, Minister of Industry and Commerce Ragnheiður Elín Árnadóttir gifted Rahm Emanuel, the mayor of Chicago, with a woollen jumper designed by clothing brand 66 North.
According to Vísir, the garment has caused some widespread public criticism due to its odd design and extremely wide neckline. Among those who blasted the jumper, is the Handknitting Association of Iceland. “A garment such as this would never be sold in our shops. Our aim is to sell well-crafted, outstanding products that are hand-made in Iceland,” read a statement from the association.
Updated 15.20: According to Vísir, the jumper was manufactured in China. A spokesperson for 66 North confirms this. The jumper in question is called Grímsey and cost 230 Euros, according to the firm’s website.
