Upadate: Heavy snow and avalanche danger in north Westfjords 2315

An avalanche occurred last night near the village of Súðavík in the Westfjords, closing the road to the town. The road will be cleared of snow as soon as the area has been assessed.

There is a considerable avalanche risk in the northern Westfjords and Tröllaskagi peninsula in North Iceland. 

Updated at 11.40 am: The road to Súðavík has now been cleared of snow and is open to traffic. However, road conditions in the area are rather poor.
