Last night Iceland experienced yet another freak weather event, as the temperature climbed to a balmy 13°C (55°F) at three in the morning south of Eyjafjallajökull glacier in South Iceland. By this time of year Icelanders are used to temperatures below freezing. Last weekend the Dalatangi weather station in East Iceland recorded temperatures above 16°C (61°F) in the middle of the night. A third freak temperature event was recorded at Dalatangi on November 24 when the temperature topped 20°C (68°F) in the middle of the night.

According to the Icelandic Meteorological Office temperatures are expected to remain relatively high for the next few days. The Icelandic Meteorological Office is forecasting winds from the gentle to fresh breeze from the north east and intermittent light rain for the remainder of the day, but mainly dry in the West and North West. Temperature is expected to remain between 2-10°C (35.6°F-50°F), warmest in SW-Iceland.
Tomorrow the wind will pick up slightly, with a moderate gale from the north east and rain or sleet in North, East and South East Iceland, and in South and West Iceland by tomorrow night. Travellers can expect heavy rain in the South East, but the winds will be mildest in the South. Temperature will remain 0-8°C (32-46.4°F), mildest on the South coast.
On Friday and Saturday: fresh breeze to moderate gale, but will slow down by Saturday afternoon. Rain or sleet, but mostly dry in the northwest and west. By Saturday most of Iceland will be dry, except the east. Temperature will remain 0-8°C (32-46.4°F), mildest in South Iceland. On Saturday , lighter by afternoon.
