According to the latest University rankings by The Times Higher Education World University Ranking the University of Iceland is one of 200 best universities in Europe. This is the first time the Times Higher Education has published a special list ranking European universities. Iceland comes in 131st-140th place.
Making the top 200 best universities of Europe is quite a feat, considering the tiny size of Iceland and the fact that there are approximately 4,000 universities in Europe.

The top three spots on the list are occupied by British universities, which are also well represented on the list in general, with 46 of the 200 best universities in Europe. Germany is the second most represented country on the list, with 36 institutions.
The Times Higher Education notes that Scandinavian countries perform well, with significantly more institutions making the list than their population sizes might indicate. Sweden has 11 universities on the list while Finland and Denmark each have six. Three Norwegian Universities make it to the top 200 in Europe.
