Earlier today members of the Police Special Forces were flown to the Danish coast guard vessel HDMS Triton which was on an intercept course with the Greenlandic trawler. The Police Superintendent in charge of the investigation told the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service RÚV that the Icelandic Police had asked for and received assistance from Danish authorities in the case.
Birna Brjánsdóttir has not been seen since Saturday morning when she left a downtown bar at 5AM. She can be seen on footage from security cameras downtown, but disappears at 5:25AM. Police is certain that she left downtown Reykjavík in a car at that time. A red Kia Rio is seen in security footage just seconds later. A telecommunication antenna in Hafnarfjörður picked up a signal from her phone at 5:50 AM, and shortly thereafter the phone is turned off. Birna's phone has not yet been found.

The Kia Rio had been rented by sailors from the Greenlandic trawler Polar Nanoq, which was docked in Hafnarfjörður harbour, near the location where the last signal from Birna's mobile phone was detected. Birna's shoes were also found a short distance from where the trawler was docked.

Surveillance cameras from the Hafnarfjörður harbour area show that the red Kia Rio makes several trips to and from the trawler Polar Nanoq on Saturday morning. The travels of the car are described as suspicious. Security camera footage from a nearby golf club also shows the car pulling into the parking lot, but speeding off as the driver discovers that a security camera was recording the parking lot.
