Twitter feud between Icelandair and an Irish airline ends with a warm, friendly hug 6399

A Twitter feud between Icelandair and the Irish airline Aer Lingus resulted in both Iceland and Irland being erased from the map of the world, but ended with a very friendly hug.

The whole story began when the Irish airline published a map of its cross-Atlantic routes which had conveniently cut out Iceland (and Greenland). Leaving two of the largest islands in the Atlantic out of the map (Greenland is actually the largest island in the world) allowed the Irish airline to accentuate both their route network and the size and centrality of their hubs in Ireland.

An Irish Twitter user, Patrick Flaherty, called Aer Lingus out on this, notifying Icelandair that Iceland had been wiped off the map, or that they didn't actually believe in the existance of Iceland. Icelandair responded by pointing out that a more likely explanation was that their Irish competitors realized Iceland and Greenland are out of this world.

Aer Lingus responded, arguing Icelandair and Icelanders should not be offended, the company had taken artistic license to improve on the world map.

Icelandair retaliated by updating its own map, airbrushing Ireland off the map.

Aer Lingus responded with a gif, claiming Icelandair had taken things too far by wiping Ireland off the map. Icelandair agreed that they had taken things too far, posting another Friends clip.

If all disputes could just be solved with gifs and hugs, instead of attempts at wiping entire countries off the map, the world would certainly be a better place!
